Police seek answers to Lake death

POLICE believe a young man seen running from where a man was found dead last week in Tuggeranong Lake could hold answers to the investigation.

Today police pieced together the moments leading up to the 68 year old’s death, in the hope more witnesses will come forward.

Around 12.55pm on Thursday the man was found unconscious in the shore of the lake near Soward Way.

He was pulled from the lake by firefighters and taken to The Canberra Hospital, where he later died.

Police believe the man got off a bus at the Tuggeranong Bus Interchange around 12.35pm, and walked past La Porchetta on Anketell Street.

He was seen by a witness standing by the lake edge at around 12.45pm.

The man is described as 170cm (5’7”) tall with grey hair and an average build. He was wearing a blue and white checked shirt, grey shorts, and brown sandals. He also was wearing a distinctive black shoulder sling, with a small red ball attached to the end of it.

A witness saw a young man running under the Soward Way Bridge around the time the man was thought to have entered the lake. He ran past her car and up towards the stairs onto Soward Way.

Police say they hope this person will come forward and speak to police as he may have been the last person to see the deceased prior to the incident.

The young man is described as Caucasian in appearance, about 165cm tall, with short messy dark hair, he was wearing a peach coloured top, dark shoes and black shorts.

Anyone who may be able to assist with the investigation and is yet to speak to police is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.
