Russian music, with love

SOPRANO Joanna Heslop is a diplomat at the New Zealand High Commission. She’ll be joining Irish classical pianist Elaine Brennan Loebenstein in “From Russia with Love,” a recital of songs from the Russian repertoire, including works by Tchaikovsky, Rimsky Korsakov and Rachmaninov.

Heslop enjoyed a career as an opera singer and recitalist in New Zealand and Europe before changing career paths in 2007. She spent almost three years based at the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg, Russia as a soloist in its Young Singers’ Academy and has performed 24 principal operatic roles, Susanna in “The Marriage of Figaro,” Musetta in “La Boheme and Lucy in “The Telephone.” In 2002, Joanna was the soloist of the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

Elaine Loebenstein
Loebenstein has interests in the fields of accompaniment, collaboration and improvisation. a graduate of Trinity College Dublin, the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama and London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama, she was also awarded the Broadwood Fellowship for Accompaniment from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. She has performed at the National Concert Hall Dublin, St. Martinin the Fields London, Schloss Schönbrunn Vienna, Teatro Della Maestranza Seville, the Austrian Cultural Forum Manhattan and the Canberra International Music Festival.
