Student threatens school, bomb squad called

POLICE were called to Lanyon High School today after reports a 15-year-old student had made serious threats against the school.

About 1.15pm, police reached the school, where the student was contained within a classroom and other students were relocated to a nearby hall.

Police said the student ran from the classroom and dropped his school bag, that appeared to contain a suspicious device, within the grounds.

Police said the student then fled on foot into a storm water drain nearby. He was pursued on foot by police and a teacher and was finally apprehended.

He was taken into custody in Flegg Crescent, Gordon, and conveyed to Tuggeranong Police Station.

The bomb squad has examined the suspicious device within the bag. Its investigations continue.
