Sugar sounds from Okell

“SUGAR” is the promising name of Marshall Okell’s first solo album, to be showcased at The Front this week.

Formerly the lead in the band Marshall and The Fro, he’s branching out.

He’s been described as a hillbilly, blues and roots singer but this EP features five tracks that go further than his blues-inspired previous work, hinting at a Paul Simon Graceland-era African influence and  The Kinks’ garage rock touch.

The lead track, “Almost Killed You”, he says, has “an atmospheric Carney vibe”.

Okell’s new collaborators are Ryan Van Gennip and Jon Howell from the band Chase The Sun with mix by David Skeet.

“Sugar”, at the The Front Gallery, Lyneham,  April 19, 8pm.
