Syringe attack on taxi driver

A 32-year-old Queanbeyan man who allegedly attempted to rob a taxi driver armed with a syringe was arrested last night.

About 6.40pm a man approached the window a taxi and inquired about a fare. He then leaned into the taxi, pointed a syringe at the driver and demanded money.

Police said the alleged offender and taxi driver engaged in a struggle before the driver reversed the taxi and the man left. The taxi driver called police with a description of the alleged offender and his location.

Police arrived at Haig Park in Turner and arrested the alleged offender. He was taken to the ACT Watch House and charged with attempted aggravated robbery.

The man is expected to face the ACT Magistrates Court today and bail will be opposed.
