Teens face stolen car charges

TWO teenage boys face charges for stealing two cars last night.

Police will allege that between 6.30pm and 8.15pm, the two 17-year-old boys stole a purple-coloured Mazda from the car park of the Eastlakes Football Club.

Police say about 11.50 pm, a white-coloured Mazda B2600 utility was stolen from Yarralumla. The owner was woken by the sound of his car being started, and when he went outside he found his car gone and a purple Mazda 121 left in the street with its engine running.

After police received the report, they found the teens with the stolen car at the Deakin shops.

Both boys, one from Queanbeyan and the other from Canberra’s inner south, are charged with two counts of taking a motor vehicle without consent and one count of going equipped for theft.

One of the boys was released into the custody of his parents. Police will be opposing bail on the second boy when he appears in court today.
