Textile art from Maningrida

“MANINGRIDA Threads”, is an exhibition of hand crafted fabric from Babbarra Designs – recent textile art from Maningrida community in Arnhem Land.

It includes hand printed and hand painted cotton and silk fabrics. The women’s designs depict their landscape, dreaming stories, bush foods and bush activities. The exhibition will feature new and screen prints and lino block printing.

Owned by Bawinanga Aboriginal Corporation, Babbarra Designs is a creator of fine indigenous textile art. They are based at Maningrida in central Arnhem Land and operate out of the Babbarra Women’s Centre. The textile artists depict the landscape, dreaming stories, spirit beings, bush foods and bush crafts from their country surrounding Maningrida.

The exhibition continues at Nomad Art, Shop 11, M Centre, Palmerston Lane, Manuka until March 3.
