TWO birthdays, Claude Debussy’s 150th and Canberra’s 99th, will be celebrated in a concert capturing the colour and sound of favourite Debussy piano works like “Claire de Lune” and “Preludes Estampes”.
At the same time the pianist and composer, Marcela Fiorillo, will debut her own new work, “Autumn” inspired by Canberra’s most beautiful season.
Fiorillo a recognised figure on the music scene in her native Argentina, has for some years now lived in Canberra, all the while maintaining her career as professor and chair of the Piano Department at the Argentina Conservatorio Superior de Música Manuel de Falla (Superior Conservatory of Music) in Buenos Aires.
Fiorillo has recorded CDs on Argentinean Composers, Latin American and Spanish Music, Liszt and Beethoven and others classical composers. Her new album “Piazzolla Anniversary” will be launched on March 22, at the Street Theatre.
“Autumn Estampes”, at the Wesley Music Centre, March 3 at 7pm and March 4 and 4pm. Bookings and inquires to latinamericaalive@homemail.com.au or 0450 960 897 or tickets at the door.
