Two house fires in Gungahlin under investigation

POLICE are investigating two house fires in Gungahlin this week, with one property reportedly burning for up to three hours before firefighters were notified.

Police were called to the gutted house on Joe Croft Street in Bonner at about 2.35am this morning, with firefighters saying the house had been on fire for two to three hours before they were notified.

The estimated damage to the house is $300,000.

At 10pm on Sunday, police were called to Helby Street in Harrison where a fire had been extinguished. There was no structural damage to the house.

Both houses were unoccupied as they were under construction.

Forensics Services are examining the two scenes.

Anyone who may have witnessed the fires or may have information that could assist police should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.
