Walker stabbed and robbed in Weston

A MAN was stabbed and robbed yesterday evening as he walked along a bicycle path in Weston Creek.

About 6.45pm, the 29-year-old man was walking along the path on the Weston Creek side of Hindmarsh Drive, near the Tuggeranong Parkway underpass, when he was confronted by a man.

The male offender demanded the victim hand over his wallet however the victim refused and was stabbed in the stomach by the man with what appeared to be a pocket knife.

Police said after the victim was stabbed he threw his wallet in front of the offender. The offender picked up the wallet and fled the scene.

The victim was taken to The Canberra Hospital and is in a stable condition.

The male offender is described as Caucasian in appearance and about 30 years old, with a thin build and stubble on his face. He was wearing a white or grey coloured jumper.

Det Supt Brett McCann said it’s important to remember safety comes first in situations such as this.

“If a person makes a demand for your wallet or purse and is carrying a weapon, then don’t resist. No amount of money or your possessions is worth risking your safety for,” Det Supt McCann said.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or www.act.crimestoppers.com.au.
