What Canberra means to uni students

A GROUP of ANU students are involved in an unusual photography exhibition opening tomorrow night.

The ANU asked students to portray how Canberra makes them feel and the show, “In My Eyes” is the response from 25 international and domestic students in science, visual art, social sciences, business, Asian and Pacific studies.

Twenty-one second-year law and actuarial studies student Ruo Yan did a 360-degree panoramic photograph of Canberra from Black Mountain Tower.

“It’s a transition of Canberra as it blends from day to night. I stayed there the whole afternoon and night. It was pretty cold and I was pretty stupid to wear board-shorts,” Ms Yan said.

“The first time that I fell in love with Canberra was when I went up to Black Mountain Tower and saw the city from afar, with an outsider’s perspective.

“I’m from Sydney and when I first came here by myself to study I felt I should still be in Sydney. But now I feel a sense of belonging. Canberra’s my home now.”

“In My Eyes” at the Theo Notaras Multicultural Centre, opens at 6pm on May 2 and runs until May 16.
