Whooping cough breaks out at the AIS

AUSTRALIAN women’s water polo team members, Melissa Rippon and Nicola Zagame, who are currently at a team camp at the Australian Institute of Sport, have been diagnosed with whooping cough.

It has been reported that the whooping cough break-out has led to the relocation of Olympic swim star James Roberts who in residence at the AIS campus.

Water Polo Australia says the women’s water polo team is currently working closely with medical professionals at the facility and all members and officials of the team have been tested and those that returned a positive diagnosis have been placed in appropriate isolation to mitigate the risk of infection for athletes, staff and the public.

Rippon and Zagame were last week selected to represent Australia at the London Olympic Games; both are expected to return to full training by next week.
