Youth ‘addicted’ to social media: survey

ALMOST half of 16-25 year olds admit to being “addicted” to social media, a recent survey has found.

The Mobile Youth Report, conducted by Boost Mobile, surveyed 500 males and females between the ages of 16-25 years throughout Australia, with almost half of the respondents saying they felt they were “addicted” to social media. 60 per cent of those “addicted” were female.

The report also showed that 15-19 year olds spend three hours a day on social media while 20-29 year olds spend two full hours interacting socially.

Out of those surveyed, 60 per cent admitted to checking their social media feeds up to 10 times a day.

The most popular place people admitted to checking their social media feeds was in bed, with 66 per cent of respondents saying they prefer to interact under the covers, while 31 per cent admitted to reading, writing and feeding their social media addiction on the toilet.

Facebook was the most used form of social media, with 90 per cent of people surveyed actively using their account.
