A ‘mutual passion’ for Jean-Philippe Rameau’s ‘perfumed and powerful’ French Baroque dance music sparks the  production “Project Rameau” by Sydney Dance Company director Rafael Bonachela and Australian Chamber Orchestra director Richard Tognetti, two of the brightest stars in our firmament.

Rameau’s has often been called “the greatest ballet composer of his time” and now these two important Australian companies brign it into the 21st century with a performance where dancers are joined onstage by musician.

The Canberra Theatre can hardly conceal its satisfaction at getting this show here, saying “Sydney Dance Company is one of only a few nationally and internationally regarded companies with a solid and consistent history of bringing their work to Canberra.” You could say exactly the same of the ACO.

Canberra Theatre photographer, Greer Versteeg, gives us a glimpse of what is to come in her photos, taken onstage today.

“Project Rameau” at Canberra Theatre, 7.30pm September 12-14. Bookings to canberratheatrecentre.com.au or 6275 2700.

Neil Roach will host a pre-show forum in The Link foyer with SDC director Rafael Bonachela today  Thursday,  September 12 at 6:45pm.

Jane Davidson will host a pre-show talk in The Link foyer 6:45pm on Friday, September 13 and Saturday, September 14.
