THE National Arboretum now has a public membership program that will help to provide funding to support its future development.

“Canberrans have wholeheartedly embraced the National Arboretum with more than 270,000 people visiting the attraction since it was opened earlier this year and these memberships are a new way that Canberrans can support the facility while receiving some great benefits,” Chief Minister Katy Gallagher says.

“Members of the Arboretum will have a free parking pass and will be kept updated of the latest news at the popular attraction while helping to support the future development of the Arboretum and help make it an even better place for visitors to the capital, education, research and recreation.

General membership is $40 a year, while families of up to two adults and three children under 18 will be able to get memberships for $75 per year. Members will receive a membership card, annual parking pass (which can be used unless during special events which include a parking charge), quarterly electronic newsletter about the latest programs and activities at the Arboretum as well as an invitation to participate in volunteer opportunities.

The Chief Minister says the general membership program is in addition to the 200-only foundation membership program that has been operating since February, of which 39 people have paid the $10,000 fee.

The Chief Minister said that memberships are also available for the dedicated volunteer group, Friends of the National Arboretum Canberra, who provide many of the free tours of the site.
