Armed heist at Yarralumla

A MASKED man robbed a Yarralumla cafe this morning at gunpoint, but its owners say the business will be back open tomorrow.

policeThe man entered “Beess & Co” cafe at about 6.30am wearing a balaclava and threatened three staff members with a gun before tying them up.

He took a sum of cash and left through the back door of the premises, running away towards Novar St.

The cafe has released a statement saying staff were shocked by the incident, which comes on the very day that long time owner Andrea Beess Und Chrostin was to hand over the café to new owners.

“Measures have already been taken to ensure the ongoing security of staff and customers,” the statement continues.

“This morning’s event has not shaken Beess & Co. Cafe’s determination to resume business tomorrow morning where staff will continue serving Canberra’s best breakfast & lunch, and provide the memorable service that Beess & Co. Cafe is renowned for.”

A farewell party Andrea planned by the cafe’s new owners will still go ahead tomorrow from 2.30pm at the cafe on Bentham Street. Canapés, macaroons, tea and coffee will be provided.

The armed robber is described as Caucasian in appearance, of slim build and approximately 6’ (183cm) tall, aged in his 30s. He was wearing dark clothing, light coloured sneakers and a balaclava.

Anyone who was around Yarralumla shops this morning and saw a man matching the description above can contact police on 131 444.
