TO coincide with its heritage book project, works by artists and members at Strathnairn Arts Association, Jo Hollier and Carolyn Fitzpatrick, have been selected by curator Peter Haynes for a show celebrating their relationship with the homestead and its arts.
Hollier writes, “the prints I have submitted for inclusion in the ‘Artist in the House’ reflect the importance of the homestead gardens as they may have been when Strathnairn was a busy working farm. I have assumed that the domestic activities which took place around Strathnairn homestead were important to the family and workers on the property. Seasons of growth and harvest in the garden continued alongside the main industry of grazing the herb garden was essential to the kitchen and for home remedies. Also important was the need to soften a harsh Australian climate with plants from ‘home.'”
Fitzpatrick says, “the works exhibited in this exhibition are snapshot examples of some series of works made whilst living in embassy situations in China, the Philippines, India and France, where by most embassy colleagues, I was considered their ‘Artist in the House’.
They are works made along the way on my journey to Strathnairn.”
Artist in the House, April 5-28a Strathnairn Gallery, Stockdill Drive Holt, Fri-Sun 10am-4.30pm.
