Australian-German Institute welcomes Canberrans

“DAS ZENTRUM” is German for “The Centre” and in Canberra that’s exactly it—“Das Zentrum” is the Australian-German Institute, a bi-cultural not for profit community organisation housed in the Griffin Centre.

flage_germanyFounded in 1997, Das Zentrum took over the library of the former Goethe Institute in Canberra. It effectively acts as a link between Australia and other  German-speaking regions of Europe.

This weekend the busy organisation is holding an open day.

As you’ll be able to see on Saturday, it has a library of classic literature in German and English, modern German novels, current German magazines, on DVD in German both with and without English subtitles, and reference and information material.

As well there are German language courses by qualified native speakers and lectures and talks on various subjects and social functions.

The open day there will feature short poetry readings in German and English, short talks and presentations, the chance to chat to German language teachers—all accompanied by coffee and home-baked cake

Open Day at the Australian-German Institute Inc., in the Griffin Centre First Floor, Genge Street, Canberra City Saturday, October 12, 1 to 3.30pm, all welcome. Details of the organisation at www.daszentrum.org.au
