Basement smoke evacuates high rise

FiretruckUP to 600 people were evacuated from the 22-level Lovatt Tower, Keltie Street, Phillip, while ACT Fire & Rescue searched for the source of smoke coming from the building’s basement.

Two fire pumpers were on scene with the Breathing Apparatus Support Vehicle, the Bronto Skylift Hydraulic Platform, the Hazardous Materials Unit and a command vehicle while Fire & Rescue crews ventilated the basement area of the high-rise building.

No cause of smoke has been found.
