Burnout BMW driver arrested after police pursuit

A 33-year-old Kambah man will face the ACT Magistrates Court today after allegedly leading police on a pursuit through Kaleen and Lyneham.

Police said they attempted to stop a purple BMW about 5.40pm on Thursday after they saw the vehicle perform a burnout on Ginninderra Drive.

The driver failed to stop and was pursued by police along Ginninderra Drive and into North Lyneham within the 80km/hour speed limit, before the BMW got a flat tyre.

The man then ran from the vehicle and was chased by police before he was caught hiding behind a premises.

The man was taken to Belconnen Police Station where he undertook a breath analysis, returning a blood alcohol reading of 0.167 (special driver limit 0.00).

He was charged with driving with alcohol in blood, driving while disqualified, performing a burnout, driving dangerously and failing to stop when signalled by police.

Police will oppose bail in court.
