Bus services to be suspended

ACTION bus services will be temporarily suspended next week as drivers, transport officers and special needs transport staff meet to discuss their enterprise agreement.

Director of Public Transport James Roncon says all bus services will be suspended from 10am – 2pm on Wednesday, October 30. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

“The Transport Workers Union has requested a meeting of their members to discuss details around ACTION’s enterprise agreement,” Mr Roncon said.

“While the disruption to services is not desirable, the scheduled meeting between the TWU and their members to discuss the enterprise agreement is a positive outcome in the overall bargaining process. Negotiations have been taking place in good faith and this is the next step towards reaching agreement and finalisation of the process. The intention is to conclude negotiations as quickly as possible for the benefit of everyone involved, including drivers and the general community.”

Buses will remain in operation for the morning peak period and be back on the road prior to the afternoon peak. Measures have been put in place to ensure the meeting does not affect school bus services and special needs transport services.

Mr Roncon apologised for any inconvenience to bus riders.

One Response to Bus services to be suspended

Murray Watson says: 23 October 2013 at 5:22 pm

No one will be affected as no one uses ACTION.

#Privatise the service as they have done elsewhere, bus drivers are not nurses or school teachers.
