Canberra Olympic pool to close for maintenance

CANBERRA Olympic Swimming Pool will be closed for one month to carry out repainting and maintenance works.pool

A spokesperson from Sport and Recreation Services (SRS) says the pool will be closed from July 5 to August 4 while “necessary maintenance” is undertaken in accordance with the facility’s Condition Assessment and Maintenance Schedule.

Key aspects of this work will include repainting both the 50 metre and toddlers’ pools.

“The work is an important element of ongoing maintenance, designed to lengthen the life of the facility for the immediate future, while options for its longer term future are being resolved,” the spokesperson says.

“Repainting assists in preserving the integrity of the pool structure that would otherwise be exposed to damage from pool chemicals.”

The centre was previously closed in 2008 for 8 months to build the dome as part of a wider $2 million refurbishment project, which included other minor upgrade works – including the repainting of all three pools, its dive tower, and the outside main building.

Pool members may opt to continue to use the facilities at Lakeside Leisure Centre for the duration of the closure. If this option is elected, access will also be available to the Canberra International Sports and Aquatic Centre during the closure.

Further information about the closure can be found on the Canberra Olympic Pool website at canberraolympicpool.com.au.
