CCTV footage leads to Civic assault arrest

A 24-year-old man has been charged over the assault of another man in Civic in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Around 1.30am, police responded to a report that a man had collapsed along Bunda Street.

A review of the ACT Government CCTV footage showed the man was assaulted and knocked to the ground, and police identified three men at a nearby nightclub who they believed were involved in the assault.

The three men were taken to the Watch House to assist police in the investigation, and a 24-year-old Chisholm man was charged with recklessly inflicting grievous bodily harm.

North District Acting Superintendent Jeff Knight says the quick arrest of the man could be put down to the “CCTV network and extra officers on the ground.”

The 24-year-old man was granted watch house bail and will face the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.   The other two men were released from police custody.
