CANBERRA’S “Centenary babies” were today awarded with special Centenary medallions for being born on March 12, one hundred years since the naming of Canberra. Centenary Babies 096

The 21 awardees, 10 boys and 11 girls, were well behaved for what was likely to be their first formal event, but were encouraged by Chief Minister Katy Gallagher, who presented the medallions, to “cry and scream as loud as you want.”Centenary Babies 034

“We all know that as much as we try and stop them, babies will do what they want,” she said.

“Today I am excited to acknowledge these babies who are likely to live to 100 will watch our city move into its second century.”

Gallagher was joined by Former Governor-General Sir William Deane to award the medallions to the babies, who each wore special Centenary jumpers in pink and blue.

Among the babies being awarded a Centenary medallion were twins Braxton and Jordan.

Their parents Amy Henderson and Daniel Runsey, of Fisher, said the boys had a tough start to life, with trouble feeding, but that the medallions were “something positive to add to their story.”
