Centenary theme for ASOC show

“ALONG the Molonglo 2013″ is one of the major activities for the venerable Artists’ Society of Canberra, which this year has chosen a logical theme — “A Journey along the Centenary Trail”.!cid_6E7C2488-C4CF-4D27-A1D5-B974D26D8058@Belkin

ASOC vice president Alan Jones says that this time, each painting will be accompanied with a short poetic description to be displayed at the show, but the present images (and words) from the artists have been kept anonymous, as judging has not yet taken place.

The Molonglo Catchment Group and the Artists Society of Canberra have engaged all of the Catchment Groups of the ACT in this venture, which was open to all ASOC members, as well as to non-members who are affiliates of the Molonglo, Ginninderra and Southern ACT Catchment Groups.

The Exhibition will also feature art works from the local senior schools and colleges in a separate sponsored competition. In the lead up to the competition, Dr Jones made at least three visits to schools to encourage youth participation.

The competition, with prizes, including the Molonglo Art Prize, exceeding $4,000, will be formally opened by water management and water quality expert Professor Don Bursill, the Chief Scientist of South Australia on April 22 from 5:30 to 7 pm.

“Along the Molonglo 2013” at the Gallery, Canberra Grammar School, 40 Monaro Crescent Red Hill. April 21-27, Open daily 10.00am – 5.00pm (including ANZAC Day (11am – 4pm).
