CENTENARY of Canberra volunteers will be clad in bright yellow uniforms as they help run the festivities and guide people through the various events around Lake Burley Griffin on the big day next Monday.

Three of the volunteers were presented with their uniforms today at Canberra Museum and Gallery (CMAG) by the Centenary’s executive director, Jeremy Lasek.

A spokesperson for the Centenary said CMAG would be an “information hub” for the celebrations, with one of the volunteers on hand from 10am to 5pm weekdays, and 12pm to 5pm weekends, to answer questions for both locals and visitors alike.

They will be stationed in the foyer of the museum and gallery on London Circuit until November, providing information on the many events this year that have been included under the Centenary banner.

Two new touchscreen terminals were also unveiled in the CMAG foyer, displaying the contents of the “canberra100.com.au” website.

Volunteer Jenni Regan says she got involved because she loves the city and wants to help visitors enjoy it.

“It’s all about Canberra and this is Canberra’s celebration, so I wanted to be involved; Canberra’s just such a wonderful place,” she says.

Her fellow volunteer Claire Lewis agreed the new uniforms were bright enough to be seen but at the same time, “not too lary.”

“When I first heard they were going to be gold, I thought ‘Gosh, I don’t know if I can wear gold,’ but they feel very nice,” Claire says.
