Charlotte, Jack top baby names

IN 1913 it was Kathleen and Henry, but 100 years later, Charlotte and Jack are the most popular names for newborns in the ACT.

Traditional names such as Grace, William and Ruby continue to be a popular choice for new parents, says Attorney-General Simon Corbell.

“William in particular continues to be a favourite name, having appeared in the top 10 lists many times, including 1913, 1923, 1950 and every year since 2001,” he says.

Emily, Sophie, Amelia, Chloe and Grace made it to the top 10 girl’s names, and Ruby, Mia and Lily appeared again after being included in the 2010 list.

Most of the top 10 boys names for 2011 made a comeback in 2012, such as Oliver, William, James, Lachlan, Thomas, Ethan and Benjamin.

Both Charlotte and Jack appeared in the top 10 in 2011, before increasing their popularity to reach the top of the list in 2012.

Meanwhile, the top five suburbs for numbers of births in 2012 were Kambah, Ngunnawal, Macgregor, Dunlop and Wanniassa.
