Concert winds up ‘Four Elements’ festival

THE Four Elements Festival at Mirramu Creative Arts Centre winds up on  Sunday,  March 24, with a community concert to be held in the Bungendore Public School Hall from 2.30pm to about 7pm. The concert program includes “have-a-go” sessions and  performances by festival participant student dancers and tutors  Elizabeth Cameron Dalman, Malaysian contemporary dance artist  Jyh Shyong Wong, Mobius Kiryuho practitioner from Japan Kyoko Sato, professional dancer Janine Proost as well as Taiwan contemporary dance groups MAD Theater and Dancecology.

There will be Maypole dancing, and Salsabor’s Samba team will both entertain and provide a dance class. School dance groups from Bungendore Public School and Tarago Public School who have been working with Proost over a six week period will also present their new choreographed works.

There’ll  everything from opera to swing,  presented by A Chorus of Women, The Blamey Street Big Band, Three’s a Crowd and the Canberra Mandolin Orchestra.

The Four Elements Festival, a Centenary of Canberra regional Arts event at Mirramu Creative Arts Centre, has brought together dancers from across Australia, this local region and neighbouring Asian countries.

During the event, dance students have worked together and shared knowledge and skills. Participants have also been able to take Dru Yoga classes with local teacher Melissa Pollard and South Australian cabaret artist, Anya Anastasia. Visual artists Ian Robertson, Kerry McInnis and Jeffrey Frith have been on site making new work.

At 1pm  today, Wednesday March 20, in the Nolan collection gallery at the CanberraMuseum and Gallery, the dancers will  present a performance responding  the Australian landscape followed by an artistic conversation with gallery director, Shane Breynard. All are welcome.

The Four Elements Festival community concert at the Bungendore Public School Hall, 2.30pm to about 7pm Sunday,  March 24. Entry by donation of $10 or $20 per family. Patrons are invited to bring a picnic and enjoy the offerings.
