Data reveals third of ACT men overweight

ABOUT 38 per cent of men in the ACT are overweight, according to new health data. fat person

The ACT Population Health Commissioning Atlas, prepared by ACT Medicare Local and released today, is a new snapshot of the ACT’s health profile by demographic.

ACT Minister for Health Katy Gallagher says the atlas provides a “clear and comprehensive” look at the health profile of the ACT community and maps out what different health conditions are affecting different groups in Canberra.

Data showed Belconnen, north Canberra and Tuggeranong have the highest rate of overweight men. Heart disease and smoking rates were also highest in these areas.

Ms Gallagher says the results will help “develop priorities.”

“High quality data and information allows us to not only provide mainstream health services to the general community, but also allows us to see where services are missing or are not reaching the clients who need them,” she says.
