Driver flees high speed chase

POLICE are looking for the driver of a maroon 4WD who fled into bushland near Stromlo early on Saturday morning after failing to stop for a red light in Phillip.

Officers pursued the vehicle at speeds of up to 135 km/h towards Duffy, before the male driver rammed open a locked gate on Uriarra Road and continued along a fire trail.

The Toyota Land Cruiser then became stuck and the driver fled on foot, leaving behind his female passenger, who was taken to Woden Police Station and later released without charge. Police were unable to locate the man.

Anyone who saw a man walking or hitchhiking near Stromlo or along Uriarra Rd in the early hours of Saturday to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via act.crimestoppers.com.au.
