THICK fog caused a five vehicle collision this morning on the Monaro Highway, with police saying it’s “amazing” no-one was seriously injured.
Around 7.15am a B-double semi-trailer collided with a car and another semi-trailer, between Johnson Drive and Old Cooma Highway.
Police say two cars travelling in the opposite direction were side-swiped, forcing them to take “evasive action”. The crash caused one of the trucks to jack-knife across the road.
The female driver of the car suffered minor injuries.
Roads ACT closed the Monaro Highway between Johnson Drive and the Old Cooma Highway, diverting traffic onto those roads.
Acting Superintendent of Traffic Operations Rod Anderson said the incident was a timely reminder for Canberrans to modify their driving to the conditions.
“We had some very thick fog presenting a significant traffic hazard this morning. Looking at the damage this car has suffered, it’s amazing no-one was seriously injured or worse,” Anderson said.
“I urge everyone to take extra precautions during these winter months when the conditions present extra driving hazards.”
