BRENDAN Gallagher is the front man of two-time ARIA award winner, Karma County, a musician whose 30-odd years experience in the music business has been poured into creating his new double album “Wine Island’”.

The album has already been lauded by ABC music programmer Bill Riner and Radio National’s (and former Triple J) Robbie Buck, as “funky, bluesy, gritty and even a bit country and more to the point full of the poetry and wit that is signature Brendan Gallagher”.

Gallagher has  recorded for David Bowie, authored international bestseller ‘The Open Tuning Chord Book for Guitar’, contributed songs for popular television series ‘Sea Change’ and films including ‘Somersault,’ ‘Clubland’ and ‘The Boys Are Back’, and composed for film makers Warwick Thorton and Rachel Perkins.

His new  album is to  be released on Monday September  16, and he’ll be here two  days later at The Front as part of his national tour to launch the album.

“Wine Island” travels  thematically from Imperial China to an instrumental yacht rock homage to Bondi Beach. There’s a cover of a Elmore James song, and “a nod to Reg Mombassa with large dose of lapsed Catholicism.”

Disc 1 (Bianco) channels ZZ Top, Kraftwerk, Chuck Berry, Roxy Music, Devo, Ry Cooder and others.

Disc 2 (Rosso) pulls in in elements from Scott Walker, Leon Russell, The Beatles (with Billy Preston), Lalo Schifrin and  Springsteen.

Gallagher has written  “’Wine Island’ is always a little off shore, a few glasses and you’re almost there… Sometimes the journey is worth it, sometimes not.”

We’ll just have to see.
