CANBERRA table tennis player Michael Louey took home three gold medals from the ACT Table Tennis Open Championships, held in Tuggeranong over the weekend.
Louey, who happens to be deaf but competes strongly in both deaf and open competition, won gold in the men’s over-30 and over-40 age groups as well as the restricted singles category, making him the most successful player of the ACT Open Championships.
He has previously represented the ACT at the Australian Deaf Games and Australia at the Asia-Pacific Deaf Games.
Over 80 players from the ACT and interstate competed in the event, which was held at Tuggeranong Indoor Archery Centre in Greenway on Saturday and Sunday.
A separate event was also held concurrently for Athletes With a Disability, with participants coming from Canberra and NSW.
