THE ACT Government says it is “exploring options” on how to remove the rubbish of inner city homes which missed out on collection last week.

Contractors of outgoing domestic waste contractor Cleanaway went on strike on Friday, leaving homes in several Canberra suburbs with full bins.

In a press release today, the Government said it was only advised by the Transport Workers Union on Friday morning that industrial action was being taken that day by staff of the contractor, and normal household recycling and garbage collections have recommenced today.Gov

Householders who missed out on a collection have been offered the opportunity to dump their trash at Mitchell and Mugga Resource Management Centres for free until August 30.

Those suburbs that missed their recycling collection may also use the following options:

• Four regional recycling drop-off centres are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. These are located at Jolly Street, Belconnen; Baillieu Court, Mitchell; Botany Street, Phillip and Scollay Street, Tuggeranong. They can be used for recycling paper, cardboard, glass jars, bottles, rigid plastic containers, milk and juice cartons, aluminium cans and steel cans.

• Recycling drop-off centres are also located at the Resource Management Centres at Mitchell, Mugga and Parkwood (West Belconnen). These are open seven days a week.
