Hazard burns in Kowen, Latham this weekend

FIRE-FIGHTERS will conduct two separate hazard reduction burns at Kowen and Latham tomorrow, weather permitting.

The Molonglo River burn at Kowen will begin at 9.30am east of the Yass and Sutton Roads intersection, between the Molonglo River and Railway line, while the Latham burn will begin at 12pm, at Umbagong District Park near Florey Drive.

One heavy tanker, one light unit, one command vehicle and nine personnel will conduct the burn of approximately 1.5 hectares in size.

Temporary smoke cover may occur. Every effort is made to conduct the burns in weather conditions that will minimise the impact of smoke in the area.

The Health Directorate advises that people with asthma, other chronic respiratory and/or chronic cardiac diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the smoke. People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have anydifficulties.
