PADRE Antonio Francisco Javier José Soler Ramos was a Spanish composer whose influential works spanned the late Baroque and early Classical music eras and who is best known for his keyboard sonatas, an important contribution to the harpsichord, fortepiano and organ repertoire.
Now as part of an international homage to Father Soler for the 230th anniversary of his death, supported by ANU School of Music and Embassy of Spain, Argentine-born pianist Marcela Fiorillo will present a homage to Spanish Music, introduced by the Head of ANU School of Music Professor Peter Tregear.
Fiorillo is not alone — more than 100 Concerts and 84 pianists and organists over five continents are offering similar homages.
The program will include works from the piano repertoire by Soler, Albeniz, Granados, Turina and de Falla, with even a touch of Sephardim music.
“Five Centuries of Spanish Music,” Marcela Fiorillo, at the Larry Sitsky Recital Room, ANU School of Music, 7pm, Thursday September 19. Bookings to passionconcert.iwannaticket.com.au/ or tickets at the door.
