THE Canberra Symphony Orchestra has scored quite a coup with the announcement that retired Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston has been appointed to the role of chairman.

“CityNews” noticed that he attended the recent Russian music concert at Llewellyn Hall, and it turns out that he became a board member for some time.

“I became a board member last year and have been inspired by the orchestra and the contribution it makes to the Canberra community,” he said after his appointment.

Houston, best known as Chief of Air Force from 2001 to 2005 and Chief of Defence Force from 2005 to 2011, lives in Canberra with his wife Liz.

in 2012 he was named the ACT Australian of the Year. He is now  chair of the Anzac Centenary Advisory Board, Airservices Australia and the Council for the Order of Australia.

Others CSO board members for 2013/2014 are Melanie Kontze, Vice President of Capgemini (Deputy Chair), Harry Bluhm, Former Board Member and Treasurer of the Cultural Facilities Corporation (Public Officer), Alan Bunsell, Financial Controller, Australian Forrest Products Association (Treasurer), Bob Clark MBA, Executive Director of 7 Point (Secretary), John Painter AM, Emeritus Professor (Member), Lucille Halloran, Managing Partner Canberra, Ernst & Young (Member), Elizabeth McGrath, Director of ABC Canberra (Member) and John Kalokerinos, Public Servant & Vice President of the Hellenic Club (Member).
