MICHAEL Richards from Kite Magic is conducting free Kite-making Masterclasses and Information Sessions at Belconnen Arts Centre this Sunday. 

The information session from 1pm to 2pm will focus on the art and history of making kites, insights into the many and various kite designs that exist around the world, and the program of kite activities that Belconnen Arts Centre is running in Belconnen and on Lake Walter Burley Griffin, as part of the Centenary celebrations.

Then at 2pm, the Kite-making Masterclass is a chance for representatives from community groups and organisations to receive free expert guidance from Michael Richards, to learn the skills and techniques to work with their group to create unique, collaborative works of art.

There will be materials and a variety of kite kits available, and the first 20 groups to apply will receive free kite kits.  Kits include Rokkaku Kites, Cody Kites, Wave Kites and Serpent Kites.

The masterclasses are in preparation for “Wind Air Water,” the annual kite festival held on June 1 to celebrate World Environment Day.
