Lyneham shaping up for ‘Grease’

greaseOVER one hundred students from Lyneham High School are busy preparing to show us just how they can “shape up,” as the song from “Grease!” goes, in a big production of that  all-American musical, based on the sub-cultures of high school life in the 1950s.

The cast of 130 wants us all to know that their version includes all the hit songs from the movie and that  Saturday night, June 29, is sing-a-long night, with Best Audience Costume prizes as well.

Written by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, “Grease!”  is set at peer-group conscious Rydell High School, where Danny Zuko and his gang of T-Birds are always showing off their prowess to female equivalents, the Pink Ladies. Goody-goody Sandy arrives in town and the Pink Ladies take her under their collective wing, but little do they know that she and Danny have already met.

It’s the quintessential square peg in a round hole musical, and surely just about everybody’s seen the film adaptation starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John—again and again.

“Grease!” at Lyneham Performing Arts Centre,   61 Goodwin St Lyneham, 7pm, June 26-29, 11am, June 28, 1pm, June 29.

Tickets from Lyneham High School front office 6205 6409, Mon-Fri, 9am – 4pm.
