Man to face court after fleeing police

A 25-year-old man will face court today after he led police on a high-speed pursuit on Saturday night.

Around 7.45pm police were conducting routine patrols in Lyneham when they attempted to stop a car acting “in a suspicious manner.”

Police pursued the car through the suburbs of Lyneham, Watson, Ainslie and Dickson, reaching speeds of 125km/h, before using sticks to force it to stop at the University of Canberra in Bruce.

The driver abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot, but police found the man a short time later after a foot pursuit.

The man was conveyed to the ACT Watch House where he was charged with numerous traffic-related offences including driving while disqualified.
