Nightrider a summer hit

MINISTER for Territory and Municipal Services Shane Rattenbury has declared ACTION’s 2012 Nightrider bus service a success.

The summer bus service shuttled over 2,460 people home in December, breaking the New Year’s Eve patronage record.

“ACTION’s Nightrider service again proved to be a popular and affordable option for Canberrans to get home safely after a night out in the City this festive season,” Rattenbury says.

“The service achieved a record number of passengers on New Year’s Eve with 1,246 patrons opting to use the service to travel home. This is an increase of 10 percent compared to 2011.”

Rattenbury hopes to continue to grow Nightrider’s patronage during the summer, as well as to find ways to improve and expand the service.

“Late night public transport options play an important role in making Canberra safer and in giving people more sustainable travel options,” he says.

“We’ll conduct a full evaluation of the 2012 Nightrider service and focus on options for improving it in the future.”
