Ode to music bound to stir up a storm

IT’S NOT QUITE time for the feast of  Saint Cecilia, the patroness of musicians—that’s in November—but the ANU School of Music has decided to go early with “An Ode to Music,”  a free event  in Llewellyn Hall on Thursday celebrating  its own ensembles in concert.

With the ANU Chamber Orchestra, the ANU Chamber Choir, the ANU Jazz Collective and Drumatix percussion ensemble on stage, it’s bound to stir up a storm, especially since the concert will also feature several  distinguished artists in residence and special guests.

The program for Thursday includes G.F. Handel’s  “Ode for St Cecilia’s Day” HWV 76 with soloists Paul McMahon (tenor) & Rachael Thoms, (soprano) D Mancini’s “Concerto for Drumset & Percussion Ensemble” with soloist Sean Connaughton and original works & re-imagined standards by John Mackey and  Miroslav Bukovsky.

“An Ode to Music,”  at Llewellyn Hall, 7pm,  October 3. Free entry but registration essential at https://anodetomusic-som.eventbrite.com.au/?ref=elink
