Sad note in Greene tour

THERE’LL be a sad note when Paul Greene and the Other Colours make an appearance in Canberra this week.  Matt Sykes, their drummer, recently died after a boating accident near Jervis Bay.

Greene, of course,  is the Aussie Olympic athlete who became a professional singer-songwriter.

“Bad Luck Lately” is the third single off his Aria-nominated (for Best Blues & Roots) album “Behind the Stars”.

But Greene nearly didn’t make it.

In 2000, he had joined the Australian band Ghostwriters with drummer Rob Hirst and bassist Rick Grossman, and then released his first solo album in 2001, followed by a whirl of albums and a developing career as a producer and engineer.

By the end of 2010, personal issues, including a case of identity theft, were getting in the way of his music, so Greene stopped for a time.

Now, however, a reinvigorated Greene is back with his seventh album, which he also produced.

To celebrate the release of “Bad Luck Lately,” Greene and The Other Colours, fresh from the successful Woodford Folk Festival, are about to embark on the “Gettin’ Lucky” tour.

They’ll kick off in Canberra at The Front Gallery in Lyneham, at 8pm this Thursday February. Bookings to www.frontgallerycafe.com or tickets at the door.
