Singer ‘obsessed with old love’

MUNRO Melano is a Melbourne based pianist, singer-song writer, session musician and film composer.Munro Melano (small)

The Canberra-born ANU School of Music graduate and soul singer and songwriter may live in Melbourne now, but he’ll be in his home town on Friday to promote his debut EP “Running Round,” supported by Melbourne act Mechanical Pterodactyl.

Described as “A man obsessed with old love, but at a restless pace,” he is essentially a storyteller. Armed with an Arts Victoria emerging artists grant for this release, he has put together the best of city and country.

The rhythm section was laid down first at Sound Park Studios in Northcote, Melbourne but the EP was completed in a small cottage in the mountains of the Barrington Tops National Park in NSW, where he and his friend and producer Joel Woolf (Pirate, CautionForces) used borrowed recording gear and instruments to turn the cottage into a makeshift recording studio for a week of hard collaborative work.

The result is an album of tunes that he believes are “intimate, soulful and a little bit playful.”

Munro Melano at The White Eagle Polish Club, O’Connor, with The Ellis Collective and  Mechanical Pterodactyl, 8pm Friday, March 15, tickets at the door.
