Skywhale invades Belconnen

SHE’S BAACK! Yes, the benignly notorious Skywhale, perhaps wounded at the huge success of Morty the Snail across the border in Queanbeyan,  is making a return appearance tomorrow, October 5, on the lakeside at Belconnen Arts Centre.

Arts Centre staff are tagging the centre as “the Skywhale Flight Departure Lounge” for the day where, they tell us,  you can “enjoy an exclusive view of Patricia Piccinini’s magnificent flying sculpture from the Belconnen Airport.”

Tethered flights will be available throughout the morning by donation, which will support Belconnen Arts Centre’s community arts programs.

Children will have the opportunity to make and fly Skywhale kites or draw the Skywhale in an outdoor setting at easels overlooking the magnificent big balloon.

Mixed ability arts group ArtsabiliTEA will present their imaginative take on the Skywhale in a pop-up exhibition during the event.

Tea, coffee and rolls will be available on the morning. All welcome.

Skywhale, lakeside at Belconnen Arts Centre, 118 Emu Bank, Belconnen Town Centre, October 5, 8-10am, weather permitting. Weather contingency,  8am Sunday,  October 6.

Free event, flights by donation.
