Woden Library evacuated

FIREFIGHTERS evacuated 20 people from Woden Library this morning to investigate the cause of smoke in the building.

FiretruckTwo fire pumpers, a command officer, the Hazardous Materials Unit and the Breathing Apparatus Van rushed to the scene after an automatic fire alarm was triggered at 8.10am this morning.

At about 9.40am, emergency services reported the smoke was found coming from a coil in roof heating ducting on the ground floor, as firefighters continued to conduct atmospheric monitoring and ventilation.

Damage to the building was contained to the heating coil.

The area in the library remains evacuated as a precaution. Woden Library, the Heritage Library and Woden Shopfront will be closed until further notice.
