POLICE arrested a 23-year-old man in Tuggeranong last night after finding him with a home-made shotgun behind the seat of the van he was sitting in.
Criminal Investigations detectives approached the man, who is from the south coast town of Eden, at about 8.15pm last night as he sat alone in a yellow Toyota Hi-Ace van parked off the side of Clift Crescent in Richardson.
He told detectives he had the loaded, home-made shotgun wrapped in a towel behind the front seat of the van.
The police officers then saw the barrel of the gun sticking out from behind the seat and seized it, before arresting the man and taking him to the ACT Watch House.
A search of the vehicle found ammunition and an illegal dagger.
The man was scheduled to face ACT Magistrates Court this morning, with police opposing bail.
