‘Suspicious’ driver found behind gravel pile

POLICE caught a suspect this morning hiding behind a pile of gravel, after he led them on a car chase through Mawson, Pearce, Garran and Phillip.

The 37-year old man was driving a white utility with an unspecified amount of copper in the tray and “acting in a suspicious manner”, police say.

The officers activated their lights and sirens to indicate that the man should pull over but he did not stop.

After a 10-minute pursuit reaching a top speed of 140 km/h, the man stopped the ute in Ainsworth Street, Phillip, and fled on foot.

After he was found hiding behind the gravel pile, he was taken to the ACT Watch House and is expected to be charged later today.
