Swoon with The Resonants

THE Resonants are busy preparing for a concert of absolutely gorgeous music on June 1 and they’re betting that the beautiful surroundings and acoustics in St Andrew’s Church, Forrest, will make it even more gorgeous.

resoThe popular choir will perform “Swoon,” a program of sacred choral music.

The “Stabat Mater” by Pergolesi will feature the women of the choir, and a string quartet of well-known Canberra musicians.

In a completely different style are two pieces by modern composers, “Like a Shepherd” by Carl J. Nygard and “Vieni nel mio cuore” by Jonny Priano. This will be followed by  several movements of the famous “Missa Luba,” a mass in Congolese style with voices and percussion.

The second half of the “Swoon” concert opens with the Magnificat by Arvo Pärt, after which The Resonants will present the Requiem by John Rutter, accompanied by solo flute, oboe, harp, cello, organ, timpani and glockenspiel. This work also features soprano, Louise Page.

“Swoon,” at St Andrews Church, cnr State Circle and Canberra Ave Forrest, 7.30pm, June 1, tickets at the door or at www.resonants.org
