WHAT does Stephen Pike, program manager at The ‘Q’, have in mind?
Pike has announced the theatre’s search for “the Most Fabulous Fairy in The Public Service Forest.”
As you might have already guessed, it’s part of the leadup to a production, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” to run at the Queanbeyan Performing Arts Centre from July 24.
Pike is betting that almost all of us are familiar with Shakespeare’s famous, maybe from having studied it in school, seen adaptations of it, or picked up on its frequent constant pop culture references. “With lovers, fairies, jealousy and mistaken identities, topped off with generous lashings of magic,” he says, “this play has become an enduring and constantly relevant classic.”
Produced by Queanbeyan City Council and directed by Jordan Best, the production will feature new music written, new jewellery and a local cast of top talent. So enthusiastic are the creatives that they’re saying the whole thing “promises to be visually and intellectually stunning.”
To cut a long story short, The Q is looking for the “Most Fabulous Fairy” that will involve participants posting their pics on Facebook at www.facebook.com/MidsummerDreamQCC where people can “like” the pic.
The 10 pix with the most “likes” will be placed in the foyer of The Q during the first week of the show so audience members can also participate in the voting. The winner will then be crowned the new Queen or King of the Fairies and will also win a group ticket package valued at $420 to bring their 9 best fairy friends to see the show.
“A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” to run at the Queanbeyan Performing Arts Centre from July 24to August 3. Bookings to www.theq.net.au or 6285 6290.
